Comhlamh’s Volunteering Options Programme

Comhlamh’s Volunteering Programme was established in response to the increasing interest amongst Irish people in volunteering overseas for short periods.  The programme aims to help develop best practice in this sector, and to support volunteers in a longer term, ongoing commitment to development.

However, the this website only links you to other resources and companies, profit and non-profit, and there is no direct or easy access to looking up volunteer jobs specifically for physiotherapists.

To fulfil these aims, the following resources have been developed:

  1. A website, www.volunteeringoptions.org, and a book, Working for a Better World: A Guide to Volunteering in Global Development, both of which contain comprehensive information on overseas volunteering.  This includes a directory of over 115 organisations that arrange volunteer placements.
  2. A Volunteer Charter and a Code of Practice for volunteer sending organisations;

The Volunteer Charter sets out seven principles that aim to encourage responsible, responsive international volunteering. Each principle contains a list of questions to help you make sure that you have thought about the issues raised, and that you know why they are important.

     3.  Training and advice workshops for people before they go overseas and after they come back.

In addition, Comhlámh offers a wide range of services for returning development workers and volunteers.
