About the Course: This One Day course provides Professional Basic Life Support including Heartsaver AED training, which will be certified by the Irish Heart Foundation/American Heart Association. The Sports Trauma Programme will include practical training in Airway Management, Spinal Management and Wound/Fracture Management.

Course 2: Sports Injuries and First Aid

Targeted audience:

It is intended for participants who provide immediate on-field first-aid and emergency medical support. Suitable candidates include (but are not limited to) team doctors, physiotherapists, coaches, first responders, voluntary first-aiders.

 

Course Duration and content:

This 1-day programme involves multiple learning activities.

Instructor-led skills demonstration and practice sessions that includes:

 

• The chain of survival
• Adult CPR with AED
• Child CPR with AED
• Airway Management
• Oxygen Therapy
• Head and Facial Trauma
• Chest Injury
• Extremity Injury and Splinting
• Open and closed Fracture management
• Medical Emergencies
• Cervical Collar application
• Spinal Immobilisation (supine, prone, sitting, standing, crouched)
• Spinal immobilisation in confined spaces

 

Criteria for successful completion:

 
• Actively participate in, practice, and complete all skills and learning stations
• Demonstrate competence in the performance of Basic Life Support (BLS) skills such as one and two rescuer CPR, incorporating the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

 

Instructors: Our Instructors come from an Irish healthcare setting in fields such as Sports Medicine, EMS and Resuscitation Training

 

Instructor ratio: Participant-Instructor ratio 6:1(max)

 

Certification: We issue an Irish Heart Foundation / American Heart Association Heartsaver-AED Certificate. We also issue a certificate of attendance signed by the course Medical Director. It is recommended to renew your certification on a 2 yearly basis.

Course 3: Standard Principles Of Resuscitation and Trauma in Sport (SPoRTS) Immediate Care Course

Prospective applicants: Please note that this course is open to medical practitioners in all specialties with an interest in sports, as well as (sport) physiotherapists and other allied healthcare professionals who have an interest in sports.
